Mistral, Yes, of course this show is based on terrible war. It is often like this. But it is nice to see and to take pictures. There are three camps exactly at the places where the French and the Allied forces were in 1815. All has to be historically correct.The whole area of the battle (fields, old farmhouses...)is protected and looks like it did 200 years ago. The participants sleep in old tents on straw, eat out of wooden bowls...all like in the days of Napoleon.

People will always be people... creating beautiful things, living in periods of prosperity and high culture and then swinging towards war and destruction doing terrible things, following the wrong "leaders" for the wrong reasons.

I wish I could go with you! I guess there'll be plenty of men for good portraits. When I saw this pic al I could say was "wow!"

Battle of Waterloo will be replayed next weekend. Is always a nice experience because there will be between 2000 and 3000 participants. Men, women, children...all wearing the uniforms and clothes of the Napoleontic days. They sleep on straw, cook their meals on wood fires outside... all has to be authentic.I always go on Saturday because on Sunday it gets too crowded. It is as you say a good place for shooting portraits. In 3 years it will be exactly 200 years that the batle was fought and 8000 participants will be expected. Big event...perhaps too big then to take pictures. Many thanks, Rusian!
