Geese
In the biological systematics of birds, geese are a subfamily of ducks. The term goose for this group of birds is relatively old. The term goose was already used in Old High German and Middle High German. Comparative analyses with other Indo-Germanic languages suggest that both the German term gans and the Latin term anser, which is now the generic term for field geese, derive from the sound of the hissing geese.
